SILENT BALKANS is among the FOCAL FOOTAGE AWARDS 2014 shortlisted projects.

The FOCAL International Footage Awards recognize the best use of stock and archival footage across 18 production categories. This year’s edition will be held on April 30 in London.

Organizers say they received a record-setting 239 submissions from 19 countries for this year’s event, including Alex Gibney’s We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, BBC music doc David Bowie: Five Years and Kartemquin Films’ The Trials of Muhammad Ali.

SILENT BALKANS is shortlisted in the category ‘Best Use of Footage in a History Production’, together with 9/11 Firehouse (Testimony Films, UK) and Before The Revolution (Heymann Brothers Films, Israel).

The documentary was produced in the context of the cross-media project A BALKAN TALE, created by Anemon in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut.

As a follow up, Anemon is currently developing the six-part series WAR & PEACE IN THE BALKANS, a landmark reassessment of the Balkan’s history, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WW1.

In 2011, Anemon had been awarded the FOCAL FOOTAGE AWARD for Best Use of Wildlife and Natural History Footage, for its documentary A PLACE WITHOUT PEOPLE.
